DRiV/Racing4Detroit team brings home pair of trophies with strong finish to the ARX2 season
It was a crazy, crazy weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for rounds 8 and 9 of ARX2--the final weekend of the 2019 Americas Rallycross season. Both races ended with Alex Keyes in the #4 DRiV/Racing4Detroit car crossing the finish line in 3rd to claim two more podiums and two more trophies to bring back home to Detroit. The circumstances of each day, however, were very different.
On Saturday, the team missed all three qualifying rounds as it was determined after practice the car needed a new motor. With help from our Lafayette Garage crew--who thought they were just there to watch the races--the next three hours were spent swapping engines.
The #4 car made it out just in time for the semifinals, made a necessary pass to finish in the top three, and moved on to the final race. There, starting in 6th place, Alex Keyes drove with a bit of extra motivation and raced his way up to a third place finish!
Again, on a rainy Sunday, the team battled electrical issues most of the day, forcing a "Did Not Finish" in the 2nd and 3rd qualifying rounds. The crew pulled all the wiring apart and got it put back together (again) just in time for the semis. On the muddy, messy track, in which lap times were nearly 30 seconds slower than the previous day, Keyes made the final and battled his way to another 3rd place finish.
The 2019 Americas Rallycross season is now in the books with Alex Keyes and the #4 DRiV/Racing4Detroit team finishing 4th overall in the ARX2 championship standings--even after missing the doubleheader at Grand Prix de Trois Rivieres. It was a very fun weekend spent with family, friends, fans, partners, and the Buhl Sport team is already preparing for next season!
Also, don't forget--this weekend is the final Cars in Corktown of the year at Lafayette Garage! You can get a look at how the #4 car came off the track at Mid-Ohio and see the collection of trophies gathered along the way this season!
